Congratulations to Sultan Abulkhair and Milena Nasretdinova on successfully completing their industry placements with PETRA. This successful completion was featured in the International Mining!
🔹 Sultan Abulkhair (HDR 14) has started his placement with Petra since 2022. His research explores how integrating real-time data into orebody models can improve mine planning and decision-making. Using Petra’s proprietary data fusion ore tracking technology, he has been able to simulate real-time updates of block models.
🔹 Milena Nasretdinova (HDR 3) recently completed her first placement in March 2025. Her PhD research explores how high-resolution X-ray Computed Tomography and X-ray Fluorescence data can rapidly analyze core samples—predicting key processing characteristics like mineral grain size, clay and quartz content, hardness, and energy requirements without the need for extensive geometallurgical testing.
The collaboration between the Training Centre and Petra exemplifies the successful outcomes of an ARC Training Centre. Petra’s support not only drives innovation in copper ore extraction but also helps address the shortage of highly qualified experts in the field. Looking forward to seeing these research outcomes will enhance efficiency and profitability in the industry.
Thank you very much to PETRA for supporting the training centre HDR students and special thank you to Penny Stewart for her unwavering support and guidance!
