In honour of International Women in Engineering Day, the Training Centre was proud to celebrate the incredible women researchers at the ARC Training Centre for Integrated Operations for Complex Resources, whose work is driving innovation in mining and mineral processing.

  • Anna Nikitina – TC’s PDR’s work on metal-organic frameworks is paving the way for advanced metal sensing in mineral processing. Her current project is developing sensors for detecting lead during flotation, boosting efficiency and precision in mineral separation.
  • Nazym Baizhiyen – As our first Training Centre graduate, Nazym investigated grade deportment by size across different mining stages. Her work supports smarter ore sorting and processing strategies—saving both time and costs by reducing unnecessary crushing.
  • Xiaomeng Gu and Zahra Ghasemi – Both have recently submitted their PhD theses and are awaiting examiner feedback.
    • Xiaomeng Gu developed a deep learning model to analyse rock mechanics during drilling—insight that informs more efficient crushing, grinding, and concentration processes.
    • Zahra Ghasemi integrated real-time sensor data to create an online model for optimising grinding mill operations within particle size and mineralogical constraints. Her methods have shown real-world application across a variety of optimisation and engineering challenges.
  • Chryselle Ultima Mancenido – On track to submit her thesis, Chryselle Ultima Mancenido is building a machine learning model for automated lithological classification of igneous drill cores using XRF and hyperspectral data. Her approach promises to improve accuracy and efficiency in geological logging for exploration.
  • Milena Nasretdinova – Sensed core data to predict process responses for mining projects. Mlina is developing a robust algorithm combining XCT imaging and XRF data to automate drill-core classification and predict metallurgical performance—cutting lab work and accelerating decisions in mining operations.

Thank you to our dedicated supervisors for their expert guidance and to our valued industry partners for your unwavering support of our students.
