From April 2nd to 16th, Dr Anna Nikitina, a postdoctoral researcher at the ARC Training Centre for Integrated Operations for Complex Resources, visited the Department of Processing at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF) in Dresden, Germany.

During her visit, Anna had the opportunity to exchange her experiences with Dr. Martin Rudolph on Colloidal Probe Atomic Force Microscopy and Quartz Crystal Microbalance – both techniques used for interfacial and adsorption studies, and relevant to exploring fundamental mechanisms in froth flotation. Following a fruitful scientific discussion, Anna was given an inspiring tour of TU Dresden and Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) by Dr. Karin Schwarzenberger.

Anna also had the opportunity to deliver a lecture, “Soft Matter Interfaces: Application of Colloidal Materials for Mining and Food Industry” to present our Surface Interactions and Soft Matter Group at UniSA, led by Prof. Marta Krasowska and Prof. David Beattie.

Additionally, Anna visited the fascinating Terra Mineralia at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, which boasts one of the world’s largest mineralogy collections.

It was so exciting to see such a fruitful and successful research internship, which will not only exchange valuable ideas/experience but also strengthen the collaboration between the two centres and pave the way for future partnerships.
